Growth, Oxalate and Vitamin C Content of Red Amaranth (Amaranthus tricolor L.) Treated with Salicylic Acid

Red amaranth (Amaranthus tricolor L.) contains phytochemicals that are important for human health, however it also oxalate may cause uric acid problem in health. This experiment was carried out to evaluate the effect of salicylic (SA) on growth, oxalate, chlorophyll, and vitamin C contents red amaranth. seeds were germinated a plastic pot containing mixture top soil organic fertilizer. Three week-old seedlings applied with SA 0 M (control), 10-8, 10-6, 10-4 or 10-2 M. Five replicates prepared each treatment. Growth parameters observed plant height, fresh weight, dry weight plant. The Ca-oxalate crystals density determined by observing stem section under microscope. Chlorophyll oxalic content spectrophotometer method, whereas titration method. results showed height root length tend decline application, 10-6 significantly increased carotenoid content. All concentrations able reduce crystal’s stem. It can be inferred application generally enhances nutrient quality
